Q2 2009 –
Thermo Systems Begins Campus Cogeneration Automation Project
for NYU

Thermo Systems has commenced with the design and construction of the New York University cogeneration plant automation package.

New York University in lower Manhattan is expanding their existing steam and chilled water plant to incorporate cogeneration.  The project entails building an underground mechanical space beneath an existing community park.  The new plant will house two (2) new dual fuel Solar Taurus 60S series turbines with a nominal rating of 5.5 MW each coupled with two (2) heat recovery steam generators that deliver a nominal steam output of 20,000 lb/hr unfired and 60,000 lb/hr fired .  In addition a single 2,400 ton steam driven chiller will be added as well as gas compressors and all balance of plant equipment.

Thermo Systems has been contracted by Skanska USA to furnish a turnkey process automation solution and serve as the “Automation General Contractor”.  Under this turnkey approach Thermo shall furnish  a complete detailed design package, all PLC and SCADA hardware and software, instrumentation and control valves, as well as electrical and pneumatic installation.  The process automation design shall incorporate redundant Allen Bradley ControLogix PLCs and Rockwell FactoryTalk software.   Thermo Systems will function as a critical member of the project implementation team working hand in hand with other trades to ensure a successful and fully commissioned project.
